    Barra da Tijuca    English

Sweeping some eighteen kilometers south of the city, this magnificent beach is the longest in Rio. Clear waters and perfect waves make this beach a favorite with surfers, boogie-boarders, windsurfers and surf-casters. Lined with colorful bars, kiosks and restaurants, this beach is attracting increasingly large crowds of visitors, particularly on weekends. Barra is a new middleupper class neightborhood with tons of shopping areas and night-life. But it is mostlymodeled on the average American Suburb, with large avenues, strip malls, ample parking. Unless you have never seen an American suburb in your life, we recommend you limit your visits here to Pepe Beach, Nuth night Club, Joatinga and Barra Shopping Mall.

Given that the price of playing these sports are about 1/3 of what you would pay in the 1st world, we highly recommend you indulge in the during your stay."

Barra da Tijuca
Carnaval and New Years " A city-wide explosion of typically Carioca merry-making, with the greatest street celebration in Brazil. Aparty for the entire town, interlinking thrills, creativeness, colors, music, costumes and plenty of dreams."
